They are not appropriate in a reef aquarium, due to their size and the fact that they rather walk thru and over than around something. Giant hermit crabs are true scavengers and will eat anything lying around or small and slow enough to catch. They are good editions to aquariums housing big fish that do not predate on invertebrates.
